Saul Saenz, 51, died in Las Vegas, Nev. on Friday, Feb. 23, 2007. A lifelong resident of Washington state and the Pacific Northwest. Saul had only recently moved to Las Vegas.
He was born July 23, 1955, in Roma, Texas. The family moved to the Yakima Valley when he was very young. The family settled in Sunnyside, where Saul attended public schools, graduating from Sunnyside High School in June 1974.
He married the former Toni Johnson in 1978. He continued to live in Sunnyside for several years while working at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Richland. When the marriage ended in 1985, Saul worked a variety of jobs until deciding what he enjoyed most was being a heavy equipment operator.
He met Tara Roberts in 1990 and she remained by his side as his work took him throughout the Western States, and eventually led them to Las Vegas.
He enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, camping and any chance to play a practical joke, share a laugh and enjoy life.
Saul is survived by his two children, Joshua and Nicole; his mother, Idalia Saenz; two sisters, Stella Heppell and Cynthia Shaw; four brothers, Isabel (Butch) Saenz Jr, his twin brother, Samuel Saenz, Edward Saenz and Timothy Saenz; and six nephews and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Sylvia and his father, Isabel C. Saenz.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 10, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside.
