Christian Science is a religion of works instead of words and doctrines. In the Bible, James 2:17, 18 states, “faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works
I love being able to follow Jesus’ command, “heal the sick.” Many people do not understand Christian Science healing. They refer to it as faith healing. Faith is important, but merely putting your faith in something you do not understand is of little value.
The discoverer of Christian Science spent many weary years in ill health, although she had much faith in god and in healing by prayer. I wasn’t until she had an instantaneous healing by reading of one of Jesus’ healings while on her death bed, that she decided to study the bible in depth to find out what Jesus taught about healing. She wrote later in her book, Science and Health, “it is neither science nor truth which acts through blind faith, nor is it the human understanding of the divine healing Principle as manifested in Jesus, whose humble prayers were deep and conscientious protests of truth.”
Mary Baker Eddy studied the Bible every free moments for three years, writing down what she learned and later published her findings in Science and Health. She learned that God gives us only good and that his laws were powerful and spiritual, and if adhered to would heal sin and sickness. She proved this by healings of lameness, blindness, congestion, etc. and she taught her discovery to others. And that is the way the Christian Science Church was founded — on spiritual healing — and I am so glad that by applying God’s laws of health and harmony I have spent a lifetime free of drugs of any kind, have had many healings and can rejoice that I have a religion that proves what it teaches. As Jesus said, “ye shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.”
