SUNNYSIDE — The constant refrain on the radio and television advertisements, the music in shopping malls and churches about the happiness of the season reminds many people only of their personal losses.

To help people find comfort during this holiday season, a “Longest Night” service is planned at Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1106 Taylor St., at 7 p.m., Sunday.

Since Christmas can be a painful time for some, Lutheran churches from throughout the Lower Valley have organized the Sunday night program, according to Pastor Katrina Walther of Our Saviour’s.

“Our spirits sink as the days grow shorter and we need encouragement to live the days ahead of us,” she said.

The Longest Day service will include a time for sharing, prayers, scriptures and music that acknowledge God’s presence is for those who mourn, those who struggle, Walther said

Everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of church background.
