GRANDVIEW —Devoting a week to the National Future Farmers of America Organization (FFA) has been an annual tradition in February, especially in Grandview where they plan events for every day of the week for students to take part in to show their support to FFA.
Grandview’s FFA days of the week will include boot-day on Tuesday where students can be spotted wearing their favorite boots, occupation day on Wednesday where students will be encouraged to dress as their future planned occupations, flannel and animal print on Thursday where students can show off their style wearing their favorite flannel and animal-themed shirt, and blue and gold day on Friday which represents the national colors of FFA.
Teachers encourage students to engage in these activities in order to spread awareness and advocate for agriculture. “Students get to participate in leadership activities, community service, and a variety of activities like the annual youth livestock auction,” said FFA coordinator at Grandview, Jennifer McCann-Arreola who has been the FFA advisor for the last five years for the Grandview chapter.
Grandview has what is known as an affiliate chapter which requires all students who take an agriculture class to sign up with FFA which has had overwhelming participation with 160 students.
The development of young leaders is the top priority of this organization through teaching agricultural lessons as well as lessons in leadership, and personal growth. “FFA helps students by causing them to be lifelong learners and good stewards of our agricultural community.” Said McCann.
This club is designed for students not only to help themselves but also to help our surrounding community.
The Grandview FFA club has demonstrated this by doing things like participating in Service Peace Warriors, a non-profit organization that matches service dogs to veterans who suffer from PTSD.
