The Sunnyside City Council held an Executive Session on Tuesday, Jan. 24 to review City Manager Elizabeth Alba’s performance between January 2022 and January 2023.
Mayor Dean Broersma stated in the evaluation that Alba’s performance received an “above average and satisfactory” grade. “The Council truly appreciates the hard work you and your staff have provided to our community,” said Mayor Broersma.
On a scale of one to five – one being poor and five being excellent – Alba’s personal performance was rated above average (4/5) with high regarding comments from the city council. According to the performance evaluation, Alba’s “composure and appearance are impeccable, and council has received laudable comments from citizens and other elected or appointed officials.”
Comments from council also stated that the city manager has demonstrated that she possesses all of the necessary skills for the city’s top administrator position and that they are “impressed by the manager’s ability to see multiple projects through completion.”
City Manager Alba scored another above average grade in the Citizen Relations category with council commending her on the praiseworthy comments from community members regarding her willingness to listen and offer solutions.
The city council did also acknowledge that City Manager Alba needs to work on her communication with council and weekly reporting needs to be on-time, accurate, and informative.
Overall, the Sunnyside City Council is “extremely pleased” with Alba’s performance over the last year. “We are excited about the future of the city and look forward to our continued partnership,” said Mayor Dean Broersma.
