TOPPENISH — Local community members have been marching the streets of Toppenish to remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for over a decade. This year, due to the rise of the Omicron Variant, the Toppenish MLK Celebration will be hosting a Peace Drive on Monday, Jan. 17, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Toppenish Middle School, 104 Goldendale Ave. The Peace Drive is designed to protect attendees while recognizing the extraordinary contributions MLK brought to the nation.

“We started this event to remember Dr. King, and each year the community’s excitement and participation have grown. We encourage attendees to have signs in their cars with their favorite MLK quotes.” Rosa Ortiz, Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic Outreach Coordinator, stated.
