GRANDVIEW — Samuel M. Orozco Jr., 29, is in Yakima County Jail on charges of first-degree arson and two charges of second degree assault and one charge of fourth degree assault following an attempt to kill his parents.

Allegedly, Orozco then attempted to set fire to their home in the 2800 block of Hornby Road early Tuesday morning, according to a Yakima Sheriff Office report.

Orozco, who has a history of mental health issues, chased his parents with a knife threatening to kill them, before attempting to set fire to the residence by throwing sticks from a nearby bonfire through a bedroom window, reported YSO Public Information Officer Casey Schilperoort.

The burning sticks caught the bed and flooring on fire, he said.

Grandview Police detained Orozco before the Sheriff deputy’s arrival. The case remains under investigation.
