Sunnyside firefighters battle a blaze that took hold of a shed on the 800 block of 11th Street, Sept. 29. The house on the same property burned down on Sunday Oct. 30.
Andrew HamilThe Sunnyside Fire Department received a report of a structure fire on the 800 block of 11th Street just after 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30.
Flames were first seen coming from a second story window of the abandoned residence.
This isn’t the first there was a fire at this property. On Sept. 29, the shed in the yard was destroyed by fire.
“Due to the previous hazards involved with the structure and at the request of the property owner, crews maintained a defensive strategy to isolate the fire to the main building, protect exposures and let the building consume itself,” said Sunnyside Assistant Fire Chief Cameron Haubrich.
Crews from Sunnyside, Grandview, Mabton and Fire District 5 responded and assisted at incident.
All crews cleared incident at approximately at 9 p.m. Sunday.
Fire crews continued to monitor the site to keep the fire contained throughout the day Monday, Oct. 31.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
