Sen. Nelson to retire

Sen. Nelson

OLYMPIA — State Senate Majority Leader Sharon Nelson announced Tuesday that she will join more than a dozen other law-makers in stepping down this year. Nelson, D-Maury Island, is the lawmaker who introduced Senate Bill 6617, which would have exempted the Legislature from the state public records law.

Several Democrats' names have already been floated to replace Nelson in the leadership role.

They are Jaime Pedersen of Seattle, Christine Rolfes of Bainbridge Island and Andy Billig of Spokane.
