Sunnyside’s Benancio Garcia announces candidacy for 4th Congressional District

Sunnyside resident Benancio Garcia speaks with two community members during his political rally on Saturday, October 9 at Central Park.

Sunnyside resident Benancio Garcia officially announced his candidacy for the Congressional District 4 seat currently held by fellow Sunnysider Dan Newhouse.

Garcia spoke at a gathering at Central Park Saturday afternoon.

“Graduating as a Grizzly in the Class of 1990, I was of the belief that anything is possible, if we are willing to put in the hard work and pursue your passionate beliefs to become a productive citizen.”

Garcia calls himself a constitutional conservative who is pro-life and pro-Second Amendment amongst other issues on his platform.

The race became a hotly contested one after Rep. Newhouse voted to impeach then President Trump and has seen former gubernatorial candidate Loren Culp, State Legislator Brad Klippert, and business owner Jerrod Sessler enter.

“I believe I stand out with my Federal experience,” said Garcia. “Only combat soldier in the race, and I’ve lived almost all my life in a very driven agricultural community that has a large Latino community.”

The filing deadline for the race will be in May of 2022.
