An accident between a truck and an ATV on the 5700 block of Bethany Road claimed the life of 86-year-old JoAnne Kilian Wednesday, October 6.

The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office says they got the call a little after 3 p.m. about the accident.

Their report says that Kilian had pulled out of her driveway in front of the truck that was carrying silage.

The driver, a 64-year-old Sunnyside man, attempted to avoid a collision by swerving to the left and going into the ditch but the front bumper struck the rear of the ATV.

Kilian suffered fractures to her legs and internal injuries and was taken to Astria Hospital where she later died.

The accident is under investigation, but YCSO says the truck driver is not considered at fault and there are no charges expected.
