As we celebrate the service of veterans today, too many are homeless and hungry, struggling to get the health care they deserve. (‘SHS honors veterans with tribute’ and ‘Feeding the hungry’ in the Daily Sun News, Nov. 11, 2018).
Shocking to hear there are over 40,000 homeless vets, and rising, according to NPR.
This is a blight on America: those who have defended our country being hungry and homeless. In fact, it is a blight that there is so much hunger and poverty among Americans.
One in five children and one in seven seniors live in poverty, the most vulnerable.
After elections is a good time to remind those whom we elected to represent us in Congress to turn this around.
Our calls, letters and visits to our representatives can help turn this around. It is about time we really honor those who served their country and protect the vulnerable.
We know what to do, our voices can help create the political will to take action on these tragedies.
