The decision by six ultra-conservative Supreme Court justices to limit the ability of the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate rising carbon dioxide emissions is alarming to anyone who cares about the sustainability of life on planet Earth.
We may look back on this decision as the day when our collective terrifying hot-house future was all but assured by a group of ill-informed judges.
The Supreme Court sided with the fossil fuel industry, kneecapping the federal government’s ability to tackle climate change.
In other recent decisions, this court fabricated past histories to justify their decision.
The court summarily erased five decades of American bodily autonomy guaranteed by Roe v. Wade and made women second-class citizens.
Justice Alito relied on Sir Matthew Hale to support a ban on abortion, while ignoring Hale’s treatise that women become the property of husbands after marriage. Hale also prosecuted women for witchcraft.
It is wrong to say that human life begins at conception when it is just a speck of cells lacking consciousness. Pregnancy does not begin until a fertilized egg implants into the uterine wall; if not, it becomes a heavy discharge.
George & Laura Bush were blessed with twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara, as a result of “in vitro fertilization.” IVF is a process where many eggs are fertilized; the best are implanted in the uterus; the rest are thrown away.
But now many states will file criminal charges for IVF, and abortions after rape, incest or deformed fetuses. A 10-year-old Ohio girl was denied an abortion this week after she was raped.
Congressional candidate Doug White said, “No one is pro-abortion. This has to be one of the most personal decisions a woman can make. Our Constitution protects our right to make this most personal decision. I trust women to make this decision.”
