Grid Kid team in championships

Mason Chadis takes the hand off and runs in a 18-yard touchdown.

YAKIMA — After defeating Ellensburg, 14-13, the Sunnyside B-Black Grid Kid Team is eager for Saturday’s 3 p.m. championship game at Sozo Sports Complex.

They will compete at East Valley High School against the Yakima Warriors.

Last Saturday, Sunnyside’s defense was challenged by Ellensburg’s running game, which resulted in two first-quarter scoring drives.

Sunnyside’s offense, including running backs Pete Cardenas and Mason Chadis, was able to narrow the deficit to 13-7 before the half.

In the second half, Chadis scored a 52-yard TD to seal the game. He did so thanks to a hand-off from the QB.

“Our key was offensive line blocking,” coach Ralph Chadis said.
