Grizzly girls soccer gets first win

Sunnyside’s Marisol Farias and Mazuvi Madrigal battle with a Moses Lake player for the ball at Clem Senn Stadium.

The Sunnyside girls soccer team notched their first victory of the season in a 5-0 win over Zillah Saturday.

Maya Garcia led the Grizzlies with a hat trick. Also finding the back of the net were Marisol Farias and Jocelyn Herrera.

Both teams ended with 10 players after an injury to a Zillah player them short-handed. Sunnyside Coach Omar Vergara said they felt it only right to drop to 10, and it was a courtesy given to them earlier this year.

“We have opportunities to get some more wins on our record,” said Vergara who noted the team is working hard and getting better. “We just have to keep focusing in practice and continue to build our team chemistry.”

The Griz were in Wenatchee yesterday after our deadline to take on the Panthers. This Saturday they will be at Eisenhower and next Tuesday at West Valley.
