Mabton Coach Italia Quigley after giving birth on Sunday, March 5 showed up with her team on Wednesday, March 1 to see the season come to its end.
“There was no way I was going to miss our biggest week of the season,” said Coach Quigley “I absolutely adore all 11 of my girls and they have motivated me to show up every day to practice and every game.”
The Vikings had good start during the tournament with them getting an initial win during the opening round against the Liberty Lancers, the Vikings won with a 11 point lead at a score of 58-47.
Though the Vikings won their opening round they were unable to keep going after the championship title taking a 27 point loss during their quarterfinal round against the Okanogan Bulldogs at a score of 60-87.
The game started off tight with the Bulldogs leading by three points at the end of the first quarter though during the second quarter the Bulldogs were able to gain a big advantage ending the first half 20 points ahead at a score of 48-28.
The Vikings were unable to catch up with the Bulldogs ending the game 27 points ahead.
“I feel that the state tournament went well. As any coach would say, it was heartbreaking to not be able to play on Saturday and bring home a trophy because that is what a team works all season for,” said Coach Quigley “I am so proud of my girls and how hard they worked this season! They showed so much growth and really bought into what I am trying to instill in my program.”
