PROSSER — The Prosser Mustangs had an eventful week with the boys and girls teams taking on the best team in their division during the state tournament.
The Prosser boys were able to finish in fourth, while the girls brought home third place.
After an initial win against the R.A. Long Lumberjacks, 47-44 during the quarterfinals, the Prosser boys’ were matched up against the Lyden Lions for the semifinals.
The Mustangs were unable to catch up to the Lions after a tough third quarter with the Mustangs falling 21 points behind, though they were able to narrow the gap a bit with them finishing the game 18 points behind at a score of 60-42.
The Prosser boys were officially out of the final tournament but were still in the race for third with them facing the Pullman Greyhounds for third place.
The Greyhounds pulled ahead during the first quarter with Prosser three points behind, though Prosser attempted to keep Pullman from pulling ahead they were unable to close the gap with Pullman defeating the Prosser boys with a four point lead at a score of 57-53 leaving the Mustangs in fourth place for the boys tournament.
The Prosser girls had a great start to their tournament with them leaving the WF West Bearcats in the dust after a 25 point win at a score of 58-33 during their quarterfinal round.
The Mustangs weren’t able to keep that momentum though with them getting knocked out of the finals by the Ellensburg Bulldogs during the semi finales. Prosser lost by 28 points at a score of 61-33.
Though the Prosser girls were out of the finals they still had a chance at third place, the mustangs faced the White River Hornets.
The Mustangs took home third place after a close game with them defeating the Hornets by three points at a score of 53-50.
