YAKIMA — The Prosser Mustangs girls’ basketball team are off to the quarterfinals of the 2A girls’ basketball state tournament after win against the Tumwater Thunderbirds on Friday, Feb. 24 to a score of 57-31.
Prosser gained a 4-point lead during the first quarter that eventually turned into a 13-point lead by the end of the first half with Tumwater scoring eight points during the second quarter and Prosser scoring 17.
The Mustangs continued to gallop ahead with them defending their lead and ensuring that the Thunderbirds were unable to pull ahead, Prosser scored thirty points during the second half of the game with Tumwater falling behind at 17 points.
Deidra Phillips was the top scorer for Prosser at 16 total points scored Naomi Chavez followed close behind at nine points scored. Leading in rebounds was Laylee Dixon with ten total rebounds nine of which were defensive, for steals Adrianna Milanez led at four with her also having the most assists at two.
The Prosser Mustangs will be facing their next competitor on Thursday, March 2 at the Yakima Valley SunDome, they will either be facing off against the Renton RedHawks or the W. F. West Bearcats.
