Few complete Root Beer Mile

Runners struggle to chug down the root beet to start the mile run.

SUNNYSIDE — Experience at running — and drinking pop — matters.

Organizer Kennedy Sarmiento took first place on May 26 in the first Root Beer Mile with a time of 7:46.

Other Sarmiento Speed Academy followed:

Fernando Gudino, 8:02, 2nd; Xavier Estrada, 8:10, 3rd; Jose Salazar, 8:14, 4th; David Jimenez, 8:45, 5th; Joseph Calderon, 12:16, 6th; and Allan Lopez ,12:45, 7th.

Mauricio Alvarado, Luis Ramos, Alex Sanchez and Yukie Quiroz did not finish the event.
