SHS girls swimming looking for strong year

The Sunnyside High School girls swim team are freshmen Arianna Garcia, Avery Bonnie, Nadia Stroh, Skylar Southwick; sophmores Jasady Siller, Alondra Ruiz, Syrina Kaptein; juniors Jessiela Gill, Anna Alvarez; and senior Lisbeth Campos.

The shortened 2020 season was a tough one for the Sunnyside Grizzlies girls swim team.

After a strong team performance in 2019, the pandemic introduced new, unexpected challenges.

This year, they look to rebound with a team that will be more than double the size of last season, and includes a lot of members who have been swimming with the Sunnyside Sharks most of their life.

Coach Maria Yanez says, “All these girls are ready. It will be new for them, but of course your first meet is always scary. I have confidence in them all and they will do well.”

She expects Moses Lake and Eastmont to be the stiffest competition for the squad.

Returning to this year’s team are Jessiela Gill and Jasady Siller.

The first meet takes place Thursday, September 9 at Moses Lake.
